The Sri Lanka Air Force has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to community service by successfully concluding a significant intraocular lens transplant surgery event for the less privileged villagers residing around the Air Force Academy in China Bay. This benevolent endeavor was made possible through the invaluable guidance and support of Air Vice Marshal Lalith Jayaweera, Director General of Health Services, and the conducive cooperation and direction of Air Commodore Deshappriya Silva, former Commandant, all under the gracious patronage of Air Commodore Dammika Dias, Commandant of SLAF Academy China Bay.

The noteworthy event was meticulously coordinated by Group Captain HPAS Hewawasam, Commanding Officer of Hospital China Bay, along with the dedicated assistance of the medical staff.

This exceptional humanitarian effort was made possible through the expertise and relentless dedication of Dr. Abhaya Jayasekara (MBBS, MS), a Consultant Ophthalmologist, in collaboration with the dedicated medical team of the SLAF.

A total of 23 villagers and SLAF family members were carefully selected to receive intraocular lens transplant surgery. Remarkably, 19 surgeries were conducted with resounding success on the 31 October 2023 at the Bodhirajarama Temple in China Bay.

The SLAF's unwavering commitment to community service shines brightly through this event, as they continue to extend their expertise and resources to provide much-needed medical assistance to those in need.
