TROOP ROTATION OF UN PEACEKEEPING MISSION TO THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC

The 9th Contingent from the Sri Lanka Air Force to take up duties with UN Peacekeeping Mission in the Central African Republic departed yesterday (04 December 2023).The contingent comprised 21 Officers and 89 Airmen.
 
The contingent is led by the Contingent Commander, Wing Commander Asanka Rathnayake and consisted of various professionals required to perform duties at the UN Peacekeeping Mission in the Central African Republic.

Meanwhile, the main element of the 8th Aviation Contingent comprised of 94 personnel, will be arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport today (05 December 2023) after successfully completing its one-year tenure of peacekeeping in the Central African Republic. The Contingent had been deployed from 04 December 2022 and was contributing to humanitarian and peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic.

During the one year tenure of the 8th Contingent, the total revenue earned for the country was more than USD 6.9 million which was generated by completing 1430 hours of flying, troop salaries and the rentals of contingent-owned equipment.
