SRI LANKA AVIATION UNIT PARTNERS WITH UNFPA FOR A FAMILY PLANNING AWARENESS EVENT ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

The 9th contingent of the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit at Central Africa Republic partnered with the United Nations Population Fund at Central African Republic (UNFPA CAR) and conducted a United Nations Civil-Military Coordination (UN-CIMIC) activity to mark International Women's Day yesterday (09 March 2024) at the Bria Prefecture conference hall.

This CIMIC activity mainly targeted to increase awareness of Family Planning among young mothers of the Bria Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), target 3.7 also emphasize universal access to sexual and reproductive healthcare services, including family planning, information and education. Further, there are identified non-health benefits of using family planning such as expanding education opportunities and empowerment for women, poverty reduction, and ensuring sustainable population growth and economic development for countries.

The awareness lecture was conducted by Colonel (Dr) Theogene   Rurangwa, Consultant Gynecologist from Rwanda Level 2 Hospital. Further, this activity included the donation of blankets, disposable face masks, necklaces and male condoms. More than 50 mothers from Bria IDPs benefited from the programme.
Brigadier General Imtaj Uddin, the Sector East Commander graced the event as the chief guest.
