53 rd Anniversary of E&TE Wing Katunayake
The Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering Wing of SLAF Base
Katunayake celebrated its 53rd anniversary on 1 April 2011 with a
multi-religious ceremony held at its premises.
Priests
representing the four main religious groups of Sri Lanka, Buddhist,
Christian, Hindu and Muslim were present at the anniversary celebration
to conduct religious activities. All personnel employed at the E&TE
Wing as well as their families were present at the event.
The
Director Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Air Commodore
Rohan Pathirage was chief guest at event while the E&TE Wing’s
first director, retired Group Captain Ranasinghe also graced the
occasion. All formation Commanding Officers were also present at the
religious ceremony, which was then followed by a time of fellowship at
a breakfast tea party of kiribath and traditional sweetmeats.
The
E&TE wing was established as part of the signal section at the
Katunayake base in 1958. During the past 53 years, the E&TE wing
has served the nation in various capacities primarily in the field of
installation and repairing of all avionic equipment.
The Wing
has also rendered an immense service to the SLAF in the areas of
anti-missile systems and in the fabrications and the installation of
avionics wire harnesses. In addition the hardworking team in the unit
also assists in the day to day maintenance of telephone and computer
networks of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
