The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama, was the Chief Guest at the ‘Junior Prefects Induction Ceremony’ held at Royal College at 8:30 am today (25 July 2011) at the Navarangahala.

Being a distinguished old boy, he was jointly invited by the Deputy Principal Primary Section, Mrs. C.L. Attygalle, and the Principal, Mr. Upali Gunasekara, to grace the occassion as the Chief Guest and to inspire the aspiring leaders drawing examples from his own life.

The Commander, on arrival at the College was warmly received by the Principle and his Senior Administrative Staff and was ceremoniously conducted into the Navarangahala led by the college Junior Western Band.

Following the induction ceremony, the Commander delivered an inspiring lecture drawing apt teachings from Buddhist philosophy as well as from the holy Bible. Quoting the proven principles of leadership, he motivated the young leaders to welcome challenges, to be strong, righteous and prudent in overcoming them, to be honest, just and humane in leading others, and, above all, to be resolute in the roughest of times that separate men from the boys and leaders from the followers.

The event was attended by nearly 1500 people which included students, staff members and parents.
