The second batch of pre-university students received their certificates on successful completion of the leadership development programme which was conducted at Sri Lanka Air Force Station Diyatalawa.

The batch comprising 754 girls, created a wonderful scene when they participated in an evening parade under the guidance of SLAF instructors at “Bently Ground”, the parade square of SLAF Diyatalawa, during the certificate awarding ceremony.

The Students arrived to the Station on 16th of June 2011 with great expectations  after learning of the experiences of the participants of the first programme which was conducted for 420 students.     SLAF Diyatalawa received the students warmly arrival, which went a long way in reassuring them on embarking on, what was to most, their first extended stay away from home. It also gave confidence to the parents to leave their children in the hands of this prestigious armed force with an easy mind.

Commencing the training programme on the subsequent day, the Commanding Officer Group Captain Janaka Amerasinghe delivered the opening address and implanted the aim of the training in the minds of these fresher’s and also cleared the doubts they had in respect of this very different organizational environment. Thus the students stepped into the training with very positive attitude.

Since then, this set of young and clever girls were given practical opportunities to be educated in areas such as

-    Positive attitudes and thinking
-    Carrying out tasks as a team
-    Leading groups for common goals

In addition they were also given opportunities to listen to valuable lectures on important areas such as Psychology, History, Law of the country, First aid, Social customs, Sexual harassments and Conflict management by very experienced lecturers from the Sri Lanka Air Force as well as from out side organizations.

During the course, the students were also able to gain very valuble entertaining experiences such as hiking up the beautiful “Fox Hill” and social gatherings where all the activities were based on the aim of the training programme.

During this period of training these fortunate set of future generation were able to listen to speeches by the key character and the architect of this great activity Hon. SB Dissanayaka the Minister for High Education and to the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army Major General Daya Ratnayake.

On completion of this highly successful training of nearly three weeks the young and clever girls were motivated enough to organise a wonderful variety show and to organize a colorful night on Wednesday the 06th of July, where they invited service personnel. The organizing of and the participation at this event, itself indicated the successfulness of the dedicated effort of the Sri Lanka Air Force. The performance of SLAF Beat group at this event made the evening session more colorful.

As the young ladies took leave of the training establishment, the friendship and hospitality that these young children had cultivated during the program, was evident. It is hoped that this valuable experience will remain etched in their minds and serve as guidance for the rest of their life.
