Commemorative Coin

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka will issue a commemorative Coin in the denomination of One Rupee on 09th March 2001 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force. The obverse of the coin depicts the ensign of the Sri Lanka Air Force in the centre. The years '1951 - 2001' appear on either side of the ensign. The words ' SRI LANKA AIR FORCE ' in Sinhala appear at the bottom centre and in Tamil and English along the periphery.

The reverse depicts on the centre the words ' ONE RUPEE ' in Sinhala, Tamil and English. An artist's impression of three planes, used by Sri Lanka Air Force, a Chipmunk, a KFIR and a MIG 27 also appear in the centre. The words ' SRI LANKA ' in Sinhala appear at the bottam centre and in Tamil and English along the periphery. The year 2001 is depicted at the apex. The artwork of the coin has been done by Central Bank Artist, Mrs Padmanjalee Karunathillake.
