48th Anniversary of No 4 Squadron SLAF Base Ratmalana

The No 4 Squadron celebrated its 48th Anniversary on 1st June and the celebrations were held on 4th June 2013. Formalities commenced with the working parade followed by a spirited cricket match with the participation of squadron and personnel of other formations of the Base. The day’s proceedings concluded with an all-ranks lunch.

The Commanding Officer, Wg Cdr LC Dissanayake reviewed the working parade and emphasized on the heritage of the No 4 Squadron and the important milestones it has passed during its 48 year history. He iterated the heights the squadron has reached beginning from the Dragonfly helicopter of the No 2 Squadron in 1955 to the modern Bell 412 EPs. He further stated the contributions the squadron had rendered starting from a unit established for Search and Rescue role to the present day important role of flying the Head of the State.

Subsequent to the working parade, a raffle draw was held with the participation of the Base Commander and senior officers of the Base. Funds were raised for the welfare fund of the squadron through the raffle draw and medicine/medical items were donated to the Cancer Hospital, Maharagama to mark the celebrations. The Commanding Officer made it a point to extend his gratitude to all personnel who has rendered assistance to the functionality of the squadron and all those who graciously contributed towards the success of the event.

 The event was held with the participation of the Base Commander SLAF Base Ratmalana Air Cdre HMSKB Kotakadeniya. The Commanding Officer No.4 Squadron Wg Cdr LC Dissanayake, Pilots, Engineering Officers, Men, Women and civilians of the Squadron participated throughout the event.
