Golden Jubilee Celebrations of No 4 VVIP Helicopter Squadron

No 4 Squadron celebrated its Golden Jubilee on 1st June 2015. 

The celebrations started with a shramadana campaign held on 30th May 2015.

The formalities commenced with the working parade with the participation of squadron personnel. The Commanding Officer Wg Cdr MASK Maheepala reviewed the working parade and spoke, emphasizing on the heritage of the Squadron and the important milestones it has passed during its 50 years of history. He re-iterated the heights that squadron has reached beginning from the Dragonfly helicopters in 1965 to the modern Bell 412 EP and MI – 17 helicopters.  He went on to mention the remarkable contributions the squadron had made starting from a unit established for Search and Rescue role to present day VVIP role of flying the Head of the State of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and other dignitaries.

Subsequent to the working parade, planting of a Naa Tree in the hangar premises was done by the Commanding Officer celebrating the Golden Jubilee. Later the festivities began with a musical show which rounded up the entertainment for the night.

Base Commander SLAF Base Ratmalana Air Cdre PDKT Jayasinghe participated in the events, joining the Commanding Officer No.4 Squadron Wg Cdr MASK Maheepala, Pilots, Engineering Officers, Airmen and civilians of the Squadron in their celebrations.
