Secondary School Opens at SLAF Base Katunayake

The secondary school with modern facilities was declared open by the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala this morning (04 January 2016) at SLAF Base Katunayaka.

The Base commander of Air Force Base Katunayake Air Commodore Sudarshana Pathirana accompanied the chief guest and other invitees of Education Department to the school. This development project was initiated by the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala with the intention of giving quality secondary education and an equal opportunity for the children live within the SLAF Base Katunayaka and students from neighbouring families to the Base, regardless of their financial or social status.

Director Civil Engineering Air Vice Marshal Ranil Gurusinghe, Director Welfare Air Vice Marshal Lal Perera, Officers, other ranks, parents and students were participated at the opening.

Progression work of preschool in to a secondary school with modern facilities was done under the close supervision of the Director Civil Engineering, Air Vice Marshal Ranil Gurusinghe and the Base Commander, Air Commodore Sudarshana Pathirana. The school development project was coordinated by Group Captain Palitha Balasooriya and Group Captain Udula Wijesinghe.

The school at SLAF Base Katunayake was established on 20th May 1961 as a government school with the provision to provide education for male and female children up to secondary level. However, later in 1970s it has been categorized as a primary school. The school was previously affiliated to Kimbulapitya Maha Vidyalaya for secondary education. At present the school has 103 students and provided with 07 teachers including the principal.
