The Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2016 was flagged off by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala this morning in front of SLAF Headquarters.

Conducted to mark the 65th anniversary of the SLAF, this year’s race is the 17th such, and is sponsored by Abans Ltd.

The Men's  race that commenced this morning will end its first lap at Embilipitiya today, covering a distance of 178km.  Approximately 185 riders started the race this morning.

The first leg was won by Ashen Tharuka (Air Force), KrishanMadushanka (SL Navy) and LakshmanWijeratne (SL Army) finishing second and third respectively.

The second lap, spanning 144.9km will start tomorrow from Weerawila.
