Over 1,000 Air Cadets participate in first assessment camp

The first ever annual assessment camp for Air Cadets (boys) of the Air Wing was held at SLAF Diyatalawa recently.  Forty platoons that included over 1,000 Air Cadets participated at the camp.
 
Conceptualized by the Hon. Secretary of Defence, Gotabhaya Rajapakse, the weeklong event was organized with the guidance of the Director of National Cadet Corps, Major General Gamini Jayasundara. Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke too gave his fullest support and approval for the occasion.
 
Commanding Officer of SLAF Diyatalawa, Group Captain Lanka Kodippili extended his assistance in ensuing all arrangements were made well in advance for the smooth progression of the camp. The location is significant in that the camp at Diyatalawa is a training establishment of the Sri Lanka Air Force.

The Officer in Charge of the Air Cadets, Squadorn Leader Jinendra Ranasinghe, also provided the necessary guidance to the Air Cadets to make the programme a success.
 
It is now three years since the Air Wing to which the Air Cadets belong was established. Since last year it has been reinstated with necessary guidance by SLAF officials.
 
The camp concluded with a parade and awards ceremony where Director Administration, Air Vice Marshal Rohitha Ranasinghe participated as Chief Guest. Awards and certificates were presented to cadets who displayed outstanding skills during the course of the camp.
