About Us

''The Flying Training Wing of the Sri Lanka Air Force is the primary establishment responsible for conducting basic flying training for officer cadets. In addition to ab initio pilot training, the Flying Training Wing also conducts Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) training for selected pilots who demonstrate exceptional flying skill, instructional aptitude, and leadership qualities. The training is conducted using Cessna 150 and PT-6 aircraft, which are well suited for introductory flight instruction and foundational pilot skill development.

The Wing operates under a structured syllabus designed to instill essential aviation knowledge, airmanship, and flight discipline. Trainees undergo comprehensive ground school phase in aerodynamics, navigation, meteorology, aircraft power plant, aircraft structure, airborne instrument and equipment and flight safety, followed by well defined airborne training to build their confidence and proficiency.

The Flying Training Wing is presently commanded by Group Captain TP De Silva, an experienced pilot with extensive operational and instructional flying experience. Under his leadership, the Wing continues to uphold high standards in pilot training, contributing significantly to the development of future aircrew in the Sri Lanka Air Force.''
