About Us

The Flying Training Wing at SLAF Academy China Bay is responsible to train officer cadets of the General Duties Pilot branch to become fully fledged pilots by conducting basic and advanced flying training. A total of 195 pilots have been trained by the wing since 1988 to date and it is also responsible to conduct Air Traffic Control courses and to date a total of 55 have passed out since the year 1988. Fighter conversion training is also conducted at the wing.

The conduct of basic training is done using the PT 6 aircraft and is the responsibility of the Officer in Charge of Basic Training and the conduct of advanced and fighter conversion training is done utilizing the K 8 aircraft and is the responsibility of the Officer in Charge of Advanced Training. The Flying Training Wing is presently Commanded by Wg Cdr AV Jayasekera
