Air Vice Marshal NHDN Dias joined the Sri Lanka Airforce as an Officer Cadet in 1993 and he was commissioned in the Sri Lanka Air Force as a Pilot Officer in the General Duties Pilot Branch in 1995.
He is qualified in Bell 206, Bell 212/412, Mi-17 and Mi- 24 helicopters as an operational pilot as well as a flying instructor. Throughout his career, he has participated in various overseas training programs which included the Air Warfare Course in India, Basic NVG Conversion on Mi-17 Helicopter in India, Combined Instrument Rating Examiner Course in India, Safety Programme Management Course in Pakistan, and Simulator Training (Bell 412-EP) Course in the UAE.
Apart from training, he has represented Sri Lanka in international forums, seminars and conferences. He has held the post of Minister Counselor (Defence) in the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow. He has also attended defence-related workshops and collaborative programs in Republic of Korea, Bangladesh and in many East Asian Countries.
His expertise extends to various administrative and management performance development programs. He has successfully completed the Junior Command and Staff course, Defence Service Command and Staff course, Civil-Military Response to Terrorism course and National Security and Strategic Studies course.
Additionally, he has undergone specialized training in Executive Development for Tri-Service Officers, Defense Attaché Orientation.
He has obtained a Master’s degree from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and furthered his studies with a Postgraduate Diploma in International Studies. Presently he is reading for a Masters in Philosophy degree.
Recognizing his bravery and dedication, he has been awarded with the prestigious gallantry titles, WWV (Weera Wikrama Vibhushanaya) and Bar, RSP (Rana Sura Padakkama) and Bar, USP (Uttama Seva Padakkama).
He is married to Mrs. Shashikala and blessed with a son and a daughter.
