Seva Vanitha Unit Conducts Medical Campaign in line with World Glaucoma Day

Glaucoma (High pressure inside the eye) has been identified as one of the most common causes for preventable loss of vision globally. After identifying this important health issue, World Health Organization has declared 12th March of every year as the ‘World Glaucoma Day’ and had instructed to organize health awareness activities throughout the world to commemorate the day.

In light of the above, the College of Ophthalmologists, National Eye hospital Colombo in collaboration with the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit conducted a Medical Campaign, Eye Clinic and distribution of reading glasses to the extended family members of service & civil employees was carried out at Rifle Green Grounds Colombo yesterday (12 March 2020).

This was carried out by Dr. Lalitha Senarath, Consultant Ophthalmologist, Chairperson Glaucoma Interest Group Vision 2020, Ministry of Health and Dr. Ranmini Senavirathne, President College of Ophthalmologists Sri Lanka with the help of other consultant doctors at the College of Ophthalmologist Sri Lanka and supporting staff from the National Hospital.

This event was conducted under the patronage of the Commander of Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dais and the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Prabhavi Dais. A total of over 850 personnel received medical assistance during the campaign.

Moreover, Medical Officers and staff from the SLAF Directorate of Health Services and SLAF Hospital Colombo contributed to the Medical Campaign. Members of the Air Force Board of Management, Members of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit and Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Colombo also participated for the event.
