“Guwan Mithudam” Takes Off at Anuradhapura and Vavuniya

“Guwan Mithudam” a novel concept based on charity services, fledged by the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha unit, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana in view of strengthening and facilitating the needy people around the country linked up with all Sri Lanka Air Force establishments was initiated on 09 February 2021 at Anuradhapura and Vavuniya.
 
Several Community Service Projects have been implemented by all SLAF establishments as the foundation step for this specific concept. The Chairperson, together with the Seva Vanitha Unit extended their utmost support for this programme which was organized and launched initially by SLAF Bases Anuradhapura and Vavuniya.

The SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit in collaboration with SLAF Base Anuradhapura constructed a tube well with drinking water facilities and bathing places for villagers of Kudapalugollewa Gammirisweva as the initial project under “Guwan Mithudam” Community Service Programme which was declared the open by the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana on 09 February 2021.

Kudapalugollewa is one of the most rural areas in the Anuradhapura District with approximately 20 impoverished families living without adequate infrastructure facilities. They need to nearly travel a distance of 2 Km to fetch drinking water in order to fulfil their daily consumption. This project was funded by the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit and SLAF Base Anuradhapura. The Overall project was completed under the guidance of the Acting Northern Air Commander and Base Commander of SLAF Base Anuradhapura, Air Commodore Channa Dissanayake.   

Further, the Seva Vanitha Unit along with SLAF Base Vavuniya renovated 5 buildings and the Childrens Park of the Alaglla Vidyalaya, Vavuniya as the second phase of the initial project under “Guwan Mithudam” which was also handed over to school children by the Chairperson on the same day.

Alagalla is also another rural village in the Vavuniya District where the both Sinhala and Tamil communities are residing. The project will be benefit 137 school children of the school. Moreover, a donation of library books also took place simultaneously.

This second phase was funded by the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit and SLAF Base Vavuniya. The overall project was completed under the guidance of the Base Commander of SLAF Base Vavuniya, Air Commodore Deshapriya Silva.

Further, both events were attended by the Mrs. Sandya Jayasinghe, Base Commander SLAF Base Vavuniya Air Commodore Deshapriya Silva, Acting Base Commander SLAF Base Anuradhapura Group Captain Nalaka Sapugasthenna, Officers and Airmen of the respective Bases along with the Staff of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit.
