6TH PHASE OF GUWAN MITHUDAM CONDUCTED AT CHINA BAY

The 6th Phase of the “Guwan Mithudam” Project was conducted at SLAF Academy China Bay yesterday (30 March 2021). During this community project the library building of the Nalanda Vidyalaya, China Bay was renovated and handed over to the school children where library books were also donated by the Chairperson of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana.

The overall project was completed under the guidance of the Chairperson of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit and under the supervision of the Acting Eastern Air Commander and Commandant of SLAF Academy China Bay, Air Commodore Bandu Edirisinghe.

Approximately 350 Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim students are studying in this school and nearly 35 students use the library at a time for their studies. For the past 2 years students have been unable to use the library due to the dilapidated condition of the building. Hence, the building was renovated with facilitated such as tables and chairs to be used by students.

The event was graced by the Chairperson Mrs. Charmini Pathirana as the Chief Guest. Mrs. Rosy Labrooy the spouse of the Director Ground Operation, Mrs. Nirodha Thennakoon the spouse of the Director Welfare, Mrs. Ajantha Jayawardana the spouse of the Acting Director Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Acting Eastern Air Commander and Commandant of SLAF Academy China Bay, Air Commodore Bandu Edirisinghe and President of Seva Vanitha Unit at SLAF Academy China Bay, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe, a cross section of Officers and Other Ranks of SLAF Academy China Bay along with the staff of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, teachers and students of the school witnessed this event.
