'WAYO ON WINGS' MUSICAL EXTRAVAGANZA FLIES TO SUCCESS, RAISING FUNDS FOR THE 'HUSMA' PROJECT

“Wayo on Wings”, an evening of entertainment organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit was held yesterday (23 December 2023) at Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre with resounding success. The audience enjoyed the evening with Wayo headed by renowned musician  Sangeeth Wijesuriya together with Chitral Somapala and Umara Sinhawansa.

The musical extravaganza served as a fundraising effort to support the "Husma" project, a triumph aimed at instilling a sense of community service responsibility undertaken by the Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit. Before the commencement of the musical extravaganza, the pivotal "Husma" project was officially launched under the auspices of the Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence, Mrs. Chitrani Guneratne. Following the launch, well-wishers, including Mrs. Chitrani Guneratne, Mr. Jagath Sumathipala, Mr. Sameera Alwis representing CEAT, Mr. Thilak De Silva, Mr. Dudli Sirisena, Mr. Chaminda Wickremaratne and Mr. Madura Wickremaratne, famous artists namely; Umara Sinhawansa and Chitral Somapala, Chairman SLAF Motor Racing, Air Vice Marshal Manoaj Kappetipola and Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, presented monetary donations for the Husma project. Subsequently, the theme song of Husma, sung by Leading Aircraftwoman Anjalee Herath, the Derana Dream Star of Season XI, was officially launched.

The event was attended by Senior Advisor to the President on National Security, Hon. Sagala Ratnayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General Kamal Guneratne (Retd) and Chairperson Seva Vanitha Unit of Ministry of Defence, Mrs. Chitrani Guneratne, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, along with the Chairperson of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa. Further, the Commander of the Navy, along with the spouse, the Vice Chancellor of the Kotelawala Defence University, the Chief of Staff of the SLAF, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Members of the Air Force Board of Management, along with their spouses, well-wishers and an audience of over 1000 attended the event.

The associated partners, including TV Derana, Beyond Solutions, Scope Cinemas, Tickets.lk and QLeen Marketing played integral roles as contributors to the success of the concert.
