The “HERSHIELD” Awareness Program organized by Seva Vanitha Unit commenced today (06 June 2025) at Air Force Headquarters, with the participant of Officers, Lady Officers, Airmen and Airwomen.
The inaugural session was conducted by Mrs. Noushalya Rajapaksa, Attorney–at-Law, focusing on the critical topic of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The session aimed to enhance understanding among SLAF personnel about the various forms, root causes, and long-term impacts of GBV. It also emphasized the importance of prevention, early intervention and accessible support mechanisms, contributing to a respectful and informed workplace environment.
The ‘HERSHIELD’ initiative is scheduled to be conducted at several other SLAF establishments in the coming weeks to ensure wider awareness across the organization.
This initiative is part of a broader series of projects launched by the Seva Vanitha Unit such as ‘Skill Wings' (vocational training program) personal development program and ‘Clean Today, Green Tomorrow' implemented in line with the overarching goals of the Clean Sri Lanka Project, reinforcing the SLAF's dedication to raising a safe, sustainable and forward-thinking organizational culture. This initiative was implemented under the instructions of Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera.
The impactful occasion was attended by the Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe, senior members of the Seva Vanitha Unit, Officers, Lady Officers, Airmen, Airwomen and civil personnel serving at SLAF Base Ratmalana and SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura.
