In line with the novel concept introduced by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, and the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe, financial assistance amounting to Rs. 1 million was awarded to five SLAF civil personnel who are experiencing severe financial and family difficulties, particularly in relation to health, housing and children’s educational needs.
Under this welfare initiative, each selected beneficiary received Rs. 200,000.00 aimed at providing immediate financial relief and improving their living conditions.
The selection process was conducted by a Board of Officers appointed by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, based on a comprehensive and transparent selection criterion approved by the Commander of the Air Force. A total of twenty-22 nominations were received, representing all SLAF establishments and were initially recommended by boards appointed at the respective establishments. Following a rigorous and transparent evaluation process, five civil personnel were selected from the nominated candidates.
The financial assistance was ceremonially awarded today (21 January 2026) by the Chairperson, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe, with the participation of the President of the Selection Board, Air Vice Marshal Gladwin Atapattu, Secretary SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Wing Commander Lilangi Randeni and Treasurer of the Seva Vanitha Fund, Squadron Leader Vimukthi Paragahawaththa.
This welfare initiative was funded entirely through the Seva Vanitha Fund and shows the continued engagement of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit to uplifting the quality of life of Air Force civil personnel and their families through targeted and meaningful social support. SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit intends to continue this financial assistance programme annually in the future, ensuring sustained support for deserving civil personnel across the Air Force.
