In a meaningful initiative aimed at safeguarding the health and wellbeing of rural schoolchildren, a Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Purification Plant was established at Mayurapada Vidyalaya, Medirigiriya, Mahathalakolawewa, under the guidance of Mrs Krishanthi Edirisinghe, Chairperson, Seva Vanitha Unit Sri Lanka Air Force.
Situated in an area where Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) has been a significant public health concern, access to safe and purified drinking water is of particular importance to the school community. The newly established facility will provide students and staff with a reliable source of clean drinking water, contributing to healthier lives and a safer environment for learning.
The project was funded by the Japan–Sri Lanka Friendship Association, while the construction and installation of the RO water purification facility were undertaken by the Sri Lanka Air Force Base Hingurakgoda.
More than simply providing access to clean drinking water, this initiative represents an investment in the health, dignity and future of the next generation. It further reflects the Sri Lanka Air Force’s continued commitment to creating meaningful and lasting impact in rural communities, while supporting the wellbeing and educational aspirations of children.
