Special religious functions were held yesterday (on 4th June 2012) at Sithul Pauwa Raja Maha Wiharaya in conjunction with the National Poson Poya Celebrations.

SLAF Unit Weerawila held various religious events at Sithul Pauwa, under the instructions of the Commander of the Air Force.

These events included the unveiling of Sithul Pauwa “Sthupa Kotha” by the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksha, hosting of evening “Bana Deshanawa”  by Ven Thero Rakawa Assaji - which was telecasted live on ITN, holding of “Osu Pan Dan Sala” by No 112 UAV Squadron for the 3rd consecutive time, and posting a “Mal Dan Sala” by the Seva Vanitha Unit. The Osu Pan Dan Sala was able to offer Coriander, Ranawara and Belimal as refreshment for over 5000 personnel observing “Sil” at the temple.

Furthermore the Air Force provided general necessities such as potable water and camping tents for the general public present at the temple.

The events were held under the supervision of Gp Capt. MDJ Wasage, Commanding Officer of SLAF Unit Weerawila, and with contribution and support of Officers and other ranks of the Unit.

SLAF Unit Batticaloa

Sri Lanka Air Force Unit Batticaloa commemorated the "Poson Poya day" with religious blessings and a "Bath Dansela" for the public of the Batticaloa area. A large participation of the public was experienced from the opening of the "Dansela" at 1900 hrs till the end at 2230 hrs. A pandol depicting "Mahindagamanaya" was also erected beside the dansala to mark the Poson Poya Celebrations.
