'Ranaviru Upahara' - Commemorative Medals Presented to Next of Kin of War Heroes

Having sacrificed their lives fighting to save their motherland, endowing us with a free, united and independent Sri Lanka, brave sons of Lanka performed a priceless service for the country.

1837 warriors who paid the ultimate sacrifice were fondly and respectfully remembered by their families who joined hands with the Ranaviru Seva Authority at the “Ranaviru Upahara" held at the prestigious ‘Bentley Ground’ in Diyatalawa on the 25th June 2012. The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gothabhaya Rajapaksha was the chief guest on the occasion.

There are thousands of such brave warriors who have fallen down to rest in the arms of Mother Lanka - this fact should always be kept alive in our hearts and minds because it is they who have secured for us the freedom to live freely by sacrificing their lives.

Brave warriors who fought for the independence, unity, territorial integrity and pride of the nation will be remembered in the hearts of grateful Sri Lankans, forever.
