Aviation Workshop for School Children

SLAF expands its wing further and embarks on a mission of educating School Children on Aviation. The AF Museum today for the first time in history commenced a 3 day workshop on “Aviation Fundamentals for Beginners” at the AF Museum Auditorium at Ratmalana. The Director Aeronautical Engineering, AVM Jayanath Kumarasiri graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Ratmalana Base Cmdr Air Cdre Sagara Kotakadeniya, CO AF Museum Wing Commander Chandana Liyanage and CO’s of other formations also attended the opening ceremony.

The inaugural workshop was initiated with a batch of 62 students from all parts of the island.The work shop was designed to be conducted during the holidays for students of grades 3-10 (Age 8 – 15 Yrs ) and there was good response from students who were eager to spend the next three days to get to know the basics of aviation.Officers and Technicians of AF Museum, ASW, No 04 Sqn, No 08 Sqn and Helitours will be the  instructors and demonstrators of the 3 day programme.

Due to the high demand, another 3 such programmes have been scheduled to be held during the August school vacation.
