17th Anniversary Celebration of no. 09 Attack Helicopter Squadron
No. 9 Attack Helicopter Squadron which was inaugurated on 24th November 1995 under the command of Gp Capt WLMJP Rodrigo, celebrated its 17th Formation Day on 24th November 2012 with the pride of its immense contribution to the success achieved during the war fought for the liberation of the motherland from the brutal terrorism.
The Formation Day working parade was held at the Base parade ground and it was reviewed by Wg Cdr RADTM Weeraratne, the present Commanding Officer of the Squadron. As a tribute to the war heroes who have sacrificed their precious lives while serving in this Squadron, floral tributes were offered at the monument constructed by the Squadron to commemorate the fallen heroes of the squadron. This was followed by an all ranks breakfast at hangar.
As part of the 17th anniversary celebrations, Antenatal clinic at Yatiyalpathana was provided with furniture, office equipment and essential electrical appliances, which were in need from the day that the clinic was established. A football tournament was also held followed by an all ranks lunch.
