On the initiative of His Excellency Udayanga Weerathunga the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia and with the generous contributions from Sri Lankans domicile in Russia, the SLAF Unit Morawewa constructed a building known as “Moscow Friendship Building” at the Morawewa Sinhala Vidyalaya. The building was handed over to the school by His Excellency Udayanga Weerathunga the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Russia on 13th May 2013.

The construction of this building, which comprises of two classrooms, was started on 11 September 2012 and the project was coordinated by Gp Capt RAUP Rajapaksha the Defence Attaché in the Sri Lankan Embassy in Russia.
 
Mrs Weerathunga, Wg Cdr HWR Chandima the Commanding Officer SLAF Unit Morawewa, Mr Wijerathna Bandara the Principal of Morawewa Sinhala Vidyalaya, Mr Dhammika Wijesinghe the OIC of the Morawewa Police Station, SLAF personnel, teachers, students and civilians were also present during the handing over.
