Another Batch of kids joined the 'Young Aviators Club'

The ninth session of the workshop series of “Aviation Fundamental for Beginners” was successfully conducted at SLAF museum from 3rd to 5th August 2013. Total number of 59 enthusiastic kids from various schools of the Island was participated for the workshop. The kids were given the opportunity to participate for the lectures, demonstrations, experimental sessions and practical experiences with real aircraft.

The aim of this series of workshops is to give a basic knowledge on aviation, give an opportunity to those who are interested on aviation to enhance their knowledge and to lay a basic, yet strong foundation of knowledge on future “aviators”.  The content of the workshop included with basic fundamentals of aviation, evolution and development of aircraft, basic aerodynamics, structure and main parts of aircraft, basic helicopter theory   and basics of communication and instrumentation.  Further, the participants had the opportunity to visit number of workshops of Aero Engineering Support Wing (ASW) of SLAF Base Rathmalana, and the Air Traffic Control tower of Rathmalana Airport.  

Lectures and training sessions were conducted by the experienced personnel including Engineers, Pilots and Technicians of the Air Force .

This session was the first one out of six workshops scheduled for this August school vacation and the second session will be commenced on 8th August.
