All Night Pirith Chanting at SLAF Base Katunayake

An all night ‘Pirith Chanting’ ceremony was held at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake on 29th November 2013 to invoke blessings on the souls of fallen war heroes of the Sri Lanka Air Force, who made the supreme sacrifice by defending the nation and also to bless the Commander of the Air Force, Officers, all ranks, civil servants and their families for the coming New Year 2014.

Prior to the commencement of Pirith Chanting ceremony, the ‘Reliquary’ (Karaduwa) was taken to the Base in a colorful procession and was placed within the ‘Pirith Mandapaya’ by the Base Commander Air Cdre SK Pathirana.  This religious event was organized under the supervision of venerable Sumedha Thissa thero the Chief incumbent of the Abeysekararamaya Temple in Negombo and was well attended by the Commanding Officers of all Formations, service personnel and their families.

Subsequent to the Pirith Chanting ceremony, an alms giving was accorded to the venerable Maha Sangha, which was followed by the presentation of 50 ‘Ata Pirikara’. This meritorious endeavour culminated, with all those who attended partaking in the alms giving.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
