Outgoing Commander Bids Farewell

The outgoing commander of the SLAF, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama, completed formal farewell visits to the bases and units of the SLAF this week.  Having started his tour from the South, with SLAF Katukurunda, the Commander visited SLAF Weerawila and SLAF Diyatalawa on the 17th of February.  He visited SLAF Ampara, SLAF Batticaloa, SLAF Base Minneria and SLAF Sigiriya on the 18th, followed by SLAF BIA, SLAF Ekala, SLAF Base Ratmalana and SLAF Base Katunayake on the 22nd.  On the 23rd he visited SLAF Base Anuradhapura, SLAF Base Vavuniya, SLAF Regiment Training School Vanni, SLAF Palali, SLAF Mullaitivu and SLAF Morawewa.  His farewell visits completed at the Air Force Academy, China Bay.  During his visits, he bade farewell to the members and thanked them for their contribution in helping him to lead the SLAF to great heights during his tenure.

The Commander also vacated “Air House,” the official residence of the commander of the SLAF, on 25th February 2014 in order to facilitate the smooth transfer of the reigns of the SLAF.
