Honoring the Heroes

Six hundred war heroes of the SLAF and their families were honored today (January 4, 2010) at a function organised by the Sri Lanka Air Force at the Ekala Air Force Base.

The “Guwan Viru Upahara” was organised jointly by the Directorate of welfare and the Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit aimed at honoring war heroes and their families. The service personnel and their families were presented gifts packs after the occasion.

First lady Madam Shiranthi Rajapakshe graced the occasion as the chief guest. She was honored by a mother of a war hero for her invaluable service. Mrs. Nelum Goonethilake the chairperson, Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit awarded her with a scroll of appreciation.

Second lady Mrs. Kusum Wickramanayake, The hon. Secretary to the Ministry of Plantation Mrs. Indrani Weerathunga and four chairpersons of Seva Vanitha Unit of Army, Navy, Police and Civil Defence were also present at the occasion.
