Air Field Construction Wing celebrated its 05th Anniversary

The Air Field Construction Wing at SLAF Base Rathmalana celebrated its 5th Anniversary on 20th June 2014. The celebrations were started with a contribution to the Dengue eradication program organized by the Base on 10th June 2014.

AFCW, formally known as RRRW concentrated on building construction at earlier stages. However, during year 2012, RRRW was entrusted with construction of Iranamadu Runway and subsequently Anuradhapura and Mullaitivu. The identity of the wing was then changed to Air Field Construction Wing on 20th June 2013.

Now this wing is equipped with a state of the art Laboratory, knowhow of the asphalt plant and the equipment that are required to undertake runway and road project of any scale.   

The formation day parade was held on 20th June 2014. Subsequent to the working parade, the festivities began with a cricket tournament at the SLAF Base Ratmalana sports ground. The event was held with the participation of the Base Commander SLAF Base Ratmalana Air Cdre PDKT Jayasinghe. During the event Base commander launched the Laboratory web page on the Air Force website.  Commanding Officer Wg Cdr KIS De Silva, other Officers, and men of the wing participated in the event.
