17th Phase of the 'Api Wenuwen Api' Housing Project
One hundred and one houses completed under the 17th phase of the 'Api Wenuwen Api' housing project for war heroes in Puttalam district were handed over to their new owners on 1 November by His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The state function was held at Mauswewa Rathanapala Navodya Vidyalaya grounds in Anamaduwa in the Northwestern Province. The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was also present.
The key to the first house was ceremonially handed over by the President to 31013 Cpl Atapattu AMNG of Darshana Mawatha, Konkadawela in Nawagattegama, a serving member of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
Sixty three Army, twenty two Navy and sixteen Air Force personnel were beneficiaries of the 17th phase of the Api Wenwen Api housing project.
Hon. Governor of the North-western Province, Chairperson of the MOD&UD Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa, Chief of Defence Staff, Hon. Parliamentarians, President Secretary, tri forces commanders, senior government officials, military officers and a large number of people were present at the occasion.
