SLAF on Standby

A Bell 212 Helicopter and a Mi 17 Helicopter have been placed on standby at SLAF Bases Hingurakgoda and Anuradhapura respectively, for rescue operations and flood relief assistance, in the wake of the adverse weather conditions that have gripped many parts of the island.

Thousands of people were reported to have been displaced as of yesterday afternoon by floods which had effected most parts of the country in the last couple of days.
 
The Disaster Management Center said that thousands more were affected by the heavy rain and immediate relief had been dispatched to the worst affected areas.

The North Central Province was the worst affected by the floods with over 10,715 people displaced, including 8500 people in Pollonaruwa.
