No 2 Unpk Heli-Deployment (Unmiss) to South Sudan

The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) is due to deploy an Aviation Unit under the United Nations helicopter deployment in South Sudan (UNMISS). This is the second Aircraft deployment by Sri Lanka and the SLAF under a UN mandate.

This Heli-deployment will comprise 18 Officers and 86 Airmen and is scheduled  to depart to South Sudan in the first week of March 2015.

The passing out parade of the contingent was held today (13 February 2015)at SLAF Base Katunayake.  Air Marshal Kolitha Gunathilleke, the commander of the Air Force took the salute. Contingent commander of the Heli-Deployment,  Wing Commander PAV Samantha commanded the parade. The Chief of Staff of the Air Force and members of the Air force board of management and other senior officers were also present at the passing out parade.
