Medal Awarding Ceremony of Sri Lanka Aviation Contingent - UNMISS

The Sri Lanka Aviation Unit of United Nations’ Mission In South Sudan (UNMISS) is passing another milestone in its successful journey and held the UN Peace Keeping Medal awarding ceremony on 10 Mar 2016. The event was graced by the Force Commander of UNMISS, Lieutenant-General Yohannes Gebremeskel Tesfamariam as the chief guest.

Air Vice Marshal Rohana Pathirage the Director of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering , attended the parade as  the Special Representative of Sri Lanka Air Force to  witness this historical occasion.  

The United Nations Peace Keeping Medal is awarded for the military personnel who have served in a UN mission more than 90 days. The 1st Sri Lanka Aviation Contingent was established in UNMISS, Bor on 05th June 2015 and has successfully completed 09 months mandatory requirement.

Night Medal parade added more glamour for the event. It comprised with traditional dancing items and a drill display performed by the contingent personnel.  The guests were hosted by dinner after the parade at the contingent premises with unique Sri Lankan cuisine.

The State Coordinator, The Sector Commander, the Chief of the Aviation and many other Contingent Commanders were among the distinguish guests who present at the event.
