UAV Squadron Celebrates its 2nd Annivesary
No 111 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Squadron of the SLAF celebrated
its 2nd anniversary on the 01st June 2010 at SLAF Base
Vavuniya.
Initially the UAV was
established in year 1996 as No. 11 Squadron renamed as No 111
and No 112 UAV Squadrons on 01st June 2008.
No 111
Sqn flew its Searcher Mark Two UAV's extensivly through out the
"Humanitarian Operations" providing invaluable visual intelligence to
both the decision makers and also those on the front lines. This Sqn
was one of the greatest contributors to the sucess of the Operations,
"burning midnight oil" unheard and unseen by the rest of the
world, far away from the eyes of media.
In
the view of this occasion a “Shramadana” was carried out by the
officers and airmen of the formation at the public cemetery adjoining
to the camp defence perimeter on 01st June 2010.
The
formation day parade was held on 02nd June 2010 and the Commanding
Officer Wing Commander Shehan Wijayanayake inspected the parade. At the
parade the “Airman of the year” award was presented to 22136 Cpl
Nishantha WADP (Aero Eng) by the Commanding Officer. This was
followed a cricket tournament with the participation of all
ranks in comemorate the formation
day.
