The Change of Command Parade of SLAF Base Vavuniya was held on 24 February 2020 at the Base Parade Square. The new Base Commander, Air Commodore L C Dissanayake RWP and Bar, RSP and Bar, MSc (MOA), MSc (Strat Stu), BSc (Def Stu), Pg Dip (Def Mgt), fawc, psc took over the duties from Air Commodore L H Sumanaweera RWP, RSP and Bar, USP, MSc (Strat Stu), MDS, fawc, psc.

During his farewell address, Air Commodore Sumanaweera thanked all personnel of the Base for their support during his tenure as Base Commander. Air Commodore Sumanaweera will be proceeding to SLAF Base Anuradhapura where he will be taking over command of the Base subsequently.
