SLAF Station Koggala organizes Maritime Environment Protection Programme and Beach Carnival

In line with the Sustainable Development and Environment Protection Goals of the Government and the 69th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force, SLAF Station Koggala conducted a Maritime Environment Protection and Tourism Promotion Programme, covering the Koggala coastal area yesterday (29 February 2020). The programme was designed to cover a 10 km stretch along the coastal belt at Habaraduwa area. The Costal Conservation Department, various Government / Non-government Organizations, approximately 170 school children and teachers from the Habaraduwa Division.

Following events were carried out during this programme,
  • An awareness programme on importance of Maritime Environment Protection and preserving it for future generations.
  • Beach cleaning programme.
  • Panting of 80 “ Mudilla “ trees saplings.
  • 100 baby turtles were released to the sea.
Apart from the above events, a Beach Carnival for the foreigners was conducted which had various captivating entertainment events and beach games, followed by an outdoor Musical Evening. Over 100 foreigners participated for the programme. This event was purely a recreational event organized with the intension of promoting tourism in southern region.

Sri Lanka Air Force, is the only aerial arm among the Sri Lanka Armed Forces, responsible for defending the nation's airspace and supporting its sister services for all kind of operations.
