Aerial Reconnaissance to Monitor Public Movements in Lockdown Areas

On the instructions given by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, SLAF conducted a joint operation in collaboration with Sri Lanka Police and Special Task Force (STF) yesterday and today (12 and 13 November 2020) to monitor incidents which violate health guidelines by the public issued for lockdown areas within the Western province.

The SLAF deployed a Bell 212 helicopter and three drone teams on ground to fly over the 26 lockdown police areas in Western province to get a bird’s eye view of any illegal gatherings, movements contravening COVID 19 isolation guidelines leading to the proliferation of the virus. The aerial information transmits in real time to ground units operated by the Sri Lanka Police and the Special Task Force (STF) to arrest those who are not adhering to isolation rules and guidelines.
