SLAF GREETS THE SINHALA & HINDU NEW YEAR WITH “AURUDU UDANAYA AND AURUDU POLA”
The Sri Lanka Air Force “Aurudu Udanaya” and “Aurudu Pola”, annual events organized by the Directorate of Welfare in collaboration with SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit and SLAF Base Katunayake were held yesterday (08 April 2021) at the Sports Ground of SLAF Base Katunayake as a part of the SLAF’s Sinhala & Hindu New Year Celebrations Programme.
The Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana graced the “Aurudu Udanaya” and “Aurudu Pola” as the Chief Guest. He was received by the Director Welfare, Air Vice Marshal Kapila Wanigasooriya along with the Chairperson of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana.
A range of traditional Avurudu games were organized at the celebrations. The much anticipated ‘Aurudu Kumaraya’ and the ‘Aurudu Kumariya’ pageants were also staged during the celebrations.
Chief of Staff, Members of the Air Force Board of Management and Southern Air Commander and Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa were present for the events.
Due to the prevailing situation in the country, a cross section Officers, Airmen, Airwomen and Civilian Staff from the SLAF attended along with their family members. They were seen happily buying various products offered at concessionary rates at the outlets operated by SLAF establishments from all over the island. The events were held according to health guidelines which have been stipulated for this festival season.
