SLAF SWIMMER LEADING AIRCRAFTMAN ROSHAN ABEYSUNDARA BREAKS ASIAN RECORD

Leading Aircraftman Roshan Abeysundara, the SLAF Swimmer who embarked on the record-breaking endeavor during the early hours (02.00 Hrs) of yesterday returned back to Thalaimannar this morning (11 April 2021) breaking the Asian Long Distance Swimming Record in the process.

This daring endeavor which was conducted with the fullest support and backing of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana was completed at around 0700 Hrs this morning at the Thalaimannar Beach. Leading Aircraftman Abeysundara swam from Thalaimannar to Danushkodi in India and back covering a distance of 59.3 Km’s.      

Leading Aircraftman Abeysundara also renewed V.S. Kumar Anandan's 50-year-old record which was set in 1971 by swimming the Palk Strait in 51 hours. Leading Aircraftman Abeysundara completed the swim from Thalaimannar to Danushkodi in India and back in just 28 Hours, 19 Mins and 43 Secs.

Leading Aircraftman Abeysundara completed the first leg in 10 Hours and 31 Mins there by creating a new Sri Lankan Record.
