SLAF ON STANDBY TO FACE EMERGENCY SITUATIONS DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER

According to weather warnings issued by the Department of Meteorology in Sri Lanka the low-pressure area formed over east-central Bay of Bengal has activated the South Western Monsoon. With this, the Disaster Management Centre has issued flood and landslide warnings to several districts in Sri Lanka.

On a request made by the Disaster Management Centre the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana has directed disaster relief troops and aircraft to be kept on operational standby to react to such situations at any given time.

A Beach King aircraft of the No 03 Maritime Squadron has been located at China Bay and Ratmalana to conduct disaster monitoring missions. Further, a Bell 212 helicopter and two (02) Bell 412 helicopters at SLAF Base Ratmalana, three (03) Bell 212 helicopters at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, a Bell 212 Helicopter at SLAF Station Palaly, two (02) MI-17 helicopters at SLAF Base Anuradhapura along with Regiment Special Forces troops who have been specially trained in rescue operations have been kept on operational standby.
