THE ELEPHANT FENCE CONSTRUCTED AT KANUGAHAWEWA MODEL VILLAGE VESTED TO PUBLIC

The elephant fence project at Kanugahawewa Model Village was completed and vested to the general public and to the Department of Wild Life Conservation yesterday (10 May 2022) by the Commanding Officer SLAF Station Morawewa, Group Captain Lalith Sugathadasa. This construction project was undertaken by the SLAF Station Morawewa, under tthe directives of Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana as a Community Service Project.

This elephant fence which is 14 km long will be facilitated to 314 families to protect their lives, property and paddy fields from the disturbances of wild elephants. This will be immensely helpful to prevent the substantial damage may cause to the crops by elephants and to stopover the deep-rooted conflict between elephants and the farmers. Troops of SLAF Station Morawewa completed this task within four months.
