NO 7 HELICOPTER SQUADRON CELEBRATES 28TH ANNIVERSARY AT SLAF BASE HINGURAKGODA
The No 7 Helicopter Squadron located at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, which asserts of a glamorous history from 1994 to date rendering 28 years of dedicated service to the nation, celebrated its 28th Anniversary today (23 September 2022). The Squadron was initially established as the No 401 Squadron on 23 September 1994 with Bell 212s and Bell 206s and later was re-designated as the No 7 Squadron on 23 March 1996.
Marking the occasion, the customary Working Parade was held at the squadron premises which was reviewed by the Commanding Officer of the No.7 Squadron, Group Captain SR Jayaratne, followed by an address to the officers and other ranks where he extended his gratitude to all members of the squadron for the generous contribution and tireless efforts to spotlight the glory and the eminence of the squadron.
Following the parade, a friendly gathering of all squadron personnel along with several entertainment events was held at the Kumbuk Sevana. The Base Commander SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, Group Captain Senaka Kulathunga, attended the event as the Chief Guest.
In addition to paying profound respects to the Squadron's fallen heroes, all others who had contributed to the success of the squadron were honored and praised during the commemoration. The Squadron completed a week-long Community Service Project at Siriketha Primary School Hingurakgoda, a rural school nearby to the SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, in line with the anniversary celebrations, with the guidance of the Commanding Officer Group Captain SR Jayaratne. Additionally, a dinner was arranged for the children at the Bosath Children’s Home - Hingurakgoda.
Moreover, religious ceremonies including a "Bhodi Pooja" were performed at the Buddhist Center Hingurakgoda in memory of the Squadron's fallen heroes as well as to offer blessings on the Squadron, its members, and their families.
