Air Vice Marshal Prasanna Ranasinghe USP, MHR, MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, MSc (Mil Stu), MSc (NSWS – Pak), ndc, psc bid adieu to the Sri Lanka Air Force today (21 January 2023) after 34 years of dedicated service to the nation. At the time of his retirement, he held the appointment of Director General Aeronautical Engineering of the Sri Lanka Air Force.

Air Vice Marshal Ranasinghe made an official farewell call on the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana at his office on 18 January 2023. The Commander commended him for his dedicated long years of service rendered to the Nation and to the Sri Lanka Air Force in particular. The Commander also emphasized that he was one of the key stakeholders during the time of need of our motherland and that his illustrious career will remain etched in the annals of the SLAF. The Commander and the Air Vice Marshal Ranasinghe exchanged mementos to mark the occasion. After which, he was accorded a Ceremonial Guard of Honour by the SLAF Colour Wing on 18 January 2023 before he departed Air Force Headquarters for the last time.

He joined the Sri Lanka Air Force as an Officer Cadet on the 17th of June 1988 to the Aeronautical and General Engineering Branch with the 19th Intake of Officer Cadets and successfully completed the Officer Cadets Basic Combat Course at Sri Lanka Air Force Combat Training School Diyatalawa, Basic Administrative Course and Branch Traning Course at Sri Lanka Air Force Academy China Bay. He was commissioned on 06th July 1990 in the rank of Pilot Officer and elevated to his present rank on 01st December 2021.

During his service career he has been entrusted with many key appointments,   Commanding Officer General Engineering Wing and Commanding Officer Aeronautical Engineering Wing at SLAF Base Katunayake, Staff Officer General Engineering I and  Staff Officer Aeronautical Engineering I at Air Force Headquarters Colombo, Commanding Officer SLAF TTS Ekala, Acting Commandant SLAF Academy China Bay, Commanding Officer Junior Command and Staff College, SLAF Academy  China Bay, Chief Instructor of Air Wing – Defense Services Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka, Director General Engineering and currently is assigned with duties as the Director Aeronautical Engineering of Sri Lanka Air Force.

Air Vice Marshal Prasanna Ranasinghe has achieved many milestones in his academic carrier and obtained Masters in Human Rights from the University of Colombo, Masters in Defence and Strategic Studies in Management, Masters in Military Studies and Masters of Science in National Security and War Studies. In addition, he has followed many military trainings at overseas and domestic institutions and qualified with ‘ndc’ from the National Defense University of Pakistan and ‘psc’ from Defense Services Command and Staff College in Mirpur, Bangladesh.

 He held an appointment in the Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Council and officiated as the Chairman of SLAF Golf. For his distinguished and exemplary service, he has been awarded with “Uttama Seva Padakkama”.
