THE UNVEILING CEREMONY OF THE WAR MEMORIAL AT THE KOTELAWALA DEFENCE UNIVERSITY

The newly constructed War Memorial at the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) was declared open yesterday (17 February 2023) under the auspices of the chief guest, Prime Minister, Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena.

The Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Udeni Rajapakse attended the ceremony on behalf of the Commander of the Air Force.

The KDU Alumni Association and the KDU provided financial assistance to construct the new war memorial as a tribute to the 109 tri-forces officers, which belong to the prestige Kotelawala Defence Academy, who laid down their lives to safeguard the homeland from the LTTE terrorists. The event was attended by Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General Kamal Guneratne (Retd), Chancellor of the KDU, General Shantha Kottegoda(Retd), Vice Chancellor, Major General Milinda Peiris, Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva, Commanders of the Army and Navy, senior retired and serving Tri forces and Police officers, members of the KDU alumni association and academic and administrative staff members of the KDU.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
