CYBER SECURITY SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

The SLAF has achieved a significant milestone in enhancing its cyber defence capabilities through the groundbreaking Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) program. This transformative initiative was a collaborative effort with the Pacific Air Force (PACAF), signifying SLAF's dedication to modern defence practices and readiness in countering cyber threats.

The recent SMEE program, held from 24 July to 26 Jul 2023 at the Air Force Headquarters, marked a momentous occasion in fostering knowledge-sharing and promoting collaborative discussions on critical aspects of cyber defence. During the 6th Airman to Airman Talks, the foundation for the SMEE program was laid, resulting in its successful implementation.

Representatives from the Defence Cyber Command - Ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, and the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) also actively participated, expanding the program's impact beyond SLAF and Pacific Air Force.

The SMEE program brought together different branches of the armed forces and encouraged teamwork in dealing with cyber threats. It involved in-depth exploration of Cyber security Capability Maturity Model Assessment, emerging cyber security technologies and updating the 5-Year cyber security capability roadmap of SLAF. This strengthened the SLAF defence strategies against cyber risks.

The program's scope extended to the exchange of invaluable cyber risk advisories, fostering situational awareness and collective resilience against cyber-attacks. Discussions on social media awareness emphasized the significance of vigilance in the digital domain, reinforcing the commitment to safeguarding critical information and assets.

During the SMEE program, two PACAF representatives conducted informative and insightful sessions that enriched the knowledge-sharing experience. Their expertise and contribution played a crucial role in the success of this program.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
