SLAF WOMEN’S TEAM WINS NATIONAL HANDBALL TITLE

The National Handball Championship, which had not taken place for 12 years, was successfully held on 14 August 2023 at the Puttalam Indoor Stadium. The tournament was organized under the patronage of the State Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Hon. Rohana Dissanayaka. This event marked the revival of the championship, with the previous edition having been held in the year 2011. A total of 23 clubs participated in the championship, including teams from the Sri Lanka Army and Navy.

In the women's category, the SLAF Women’s Team, led by Leading Aircraftwoman Erandi WP, emerged victorious by defeating the SL Army Team in the finals. The final match concluded with a score of 25 – 21 in favour of the SLAF Women's Team, securing their position as the Women’s National Champions for the year 2023.

The finals of the championship were attended by the Chairman of SLAF Handball, Air Commodore Rajinth Jayawardane. He was accompanied by officials from the SLAF Handball Pool, adding prestige to the event.

The following players secured special awards during the tournament which was held from 12 to 14 August 2023.
