WORLD CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATES AT AIR FORCE MUSEUM

In celebration of World Children's Day, a special programme dedicated to children was held at the Air Force Museum in Ratmalana yesterday (01 October 2023). This remarkable event was jointly organized by TV Derana and the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit and it gathered the enthusiastic participation of over 25,000 children.

Director General Ground Operations, Air Vice Marshal Waruna Gunewardena, had the honour of attending as the Chief Guest on behalf of the Commander of the Air Force. The distinguished guest of honour for the occasion was Mr. Dilith Jayaweera, a renowned Entrepreneur and the Chairman of Derana Macro Entertainment, encompassing both radio and television ventures.

The Chief Guest received a ceremonial welcome from the Air Scouts, marked by a traditional pole salute. The event was categorized by an atmosphere of joy and delight, with a wide array of entertaining activities organized specifically for the young participants.

During the course of this event, Mr. Dilith Jayaweera made a generous contribution of one million rupees of financial assistance to the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit. This contribution was dedicated to supporting and continuing Seva Vanitha Unit’s valuable Community Service Projects.

In addition to the key dignitaries, the inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of other esteemed individuals, including the Base Commander of SLAF Base Ratmalana, Air Commodore Amal Perera, the Director of Media of SLAF, Group Captain Dushan Wijesinghe and the Commanding Officer of the Air Force Museum Ratmalana, Group Captain Dayan Sumanasekara.

Furthermore, extending priceless efforts beyond the event, the SLAF collaborated with the generosity of Munchee Biscuits to provide a memorable experience for 100 students residing in rural areas. These students hailed from Lankagama, Valachenai, Haton and Vayavilan and were treated to a free of charge visit to Colombo. This tour included visits to prominent places in Colombo, an experience that was particularly significant as majority of these students had never had the opportunity to visit the city before.
