Avurudu Pola 2011

Air Force Avurudu Pola, an annual fixture organized by the Directorate of Welfare as a part of the SLAF’s Sinhala & Hindu New Year Celebrations Programme, was held today, 08 April 2011, at the ‘Rifle Green’ Sports Grounds at Sri Lanka Air Force Station Colombo.

As the Chief Guest, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama attended the Fair with his spouse Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrema. The event was launched after the lighting of the oil lamp at 10.00 AM. Members of the Air Force Board of Management, Officers, Airmen and Airwomen attended the Fair along with their family members and were seen happily purchasing various products offered at concessionary rates for sale at outlets operated by SLAF Stations from all over the country.  

A total of 47 stalls were operated mostly by SLAF Stations offering products famous in their locality viz rice from Hingurakgoda, Ampara and Morawewa; Kithul Treacle & Juggery from Katukurunda; Wheat Flour from China Bay; Grape Wine, Nelli Cordial and Dried-prawns from Palaly; Vegetable from Diyatalawa and Sigiriya; Sweets from Weerawila; Garments from Katunayake etc.

Approximately 3,000 personnel attended the Fair.


Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
